Hong Kong, China, Jan. 18, 2011 – Advanced Fiber Resources (AFR) recently released a series of two-micron (2000 nm) fiber optic components.

AFR’s two-micron (2000 nm) fiber optic components are the enabling elements for the Tm-doped (or Ho-doped) fiber lasers, which have various applications in the fields of research and development, medical diagnostics and sensing, micromachining and material processing, and spectroscopy. The product portfolio includes isolators, circulators and filter-based components. Different types of fibers (SMF-28 fiber, Panda fiber, Multimode fiber or LMA fiber) are available for pigtail connection selection. High optical power ratings are optional for both the CW (continuous wave) and pulsed laser applications. AFR Released 2 μm Single mode Fused Coupler

Hong Kong, China, March 06, 2012 – Advanced Fiber Resources (AFR) recently released 2 μm Single mode Fused Coupler.

AFR’s single mode two-micron (2000 nm) couplers offer very low insertion loss, low polarization dependence, and excellent environmental stability. Accurate coupling ratios from 50/50 to 1/99 are available with very good uniformity in a wide wavelength range of 2000 nm windows. Different types of fibers (SMF-28 fiber or Nufern SM 1950 fiber) are available for pigtail connection selection. These components find extensively applications to perform power splitting and monitoring factions in all kinds of laser systems. Customized designs are also available upon request.

Laser Etching Steers A New Course In Manufacturing

As the technology of laser etching has advanced, new markets have evolved to take advantage of increasingly faster marking speeds as well as better marking precision and imaging capabilities. Both designs provide the user with a selection of lenses that establish both the diameter of the engraving field and the etching-line width. Longer-focal-length lenses provide larger working areas, but the line width is also enlarged, thus reducing the power density on the work surface. The user must compensate by either increasing the laser output power and/or decreasing the etching speed which mostly consists of two lenses and may be placed anywhere in the beam path before the focusing lens.

A beam expander routinely is used instead of extending the beam path approximately 10 more feet, in which the beam expands through its inherent tendency to diverge as it exits the resonator cavity. A spatial filter inserted within the beam expander produces the best mode quality in close-coupled systems, by passing the beam through a minuscule aperture.

Understanding Optical Fiber Types

Optical fibers are designed for many different application scenarios. To understand the different applications, it is important to understand the properties of different fiber types.
